Today I wanted to share my favorite healthy breakfast. I have this most mornings and I feel it really gives me a great start to the day. It is fairly low fat and packed with goodness. Oats are fantastic for your stomach and Chia seeds really are a super food. They are packed with omega 3, zinc, magnesium and calcium, just to name a few.
Here is how i make it.
Chia seeds white or black 1 tbs per person aprox
Rolled oats 1/2 cup per person aprox
fresh majule dates
macca powder (optional)
First you put some Oats into a pot, approximately 1/2 cup per person. Then I add about 1 tbs of Chia seeds to the pot for each person. Add enough water to cover well and simmer on low until it starts to thicken. Keep adding water if needed, you do need quite a bit. Basically its the same as cooking your normal porridge. Then, when the consistency looks good but still a bit runny and the Chia seeds are fairly soft, about 7 mins, turn off the heat and let it sit for about 2 minutes.
Serve into your favorite bowl and top with what ever toppings you like. I usually have banana, fresh dates, a dribble of honey, Macca powder and a splash of milk. Macca powder is great for balancing out your hormones and giving you stamina throughout the day.
And thats it, simple!
Did you know that fresh dates are much lower in fat than dried dates. It has something to do with what the sugar does when you dry out the fruit.
If you were really organised you could soak the oats and chia the night before. This is better for releasing all the goodness in the oats and seeds and makes it easier for your body to digest. It also cuts down on cooking time but I don’t usually manage it.
I love starting the day with something good. This recipe is so easy and you can add what ever you like to suit your own tastes.
